Great article! Blogging show that you are active, knowledgeable and concerned about growing your design business. Clients can view it as a way to better understand what goes into a design. There have been numerous times where I have directed clients to articles, including my own that help make better sense out of a discussion between my clients and I.

One thing to consider is that it's helpful to know other freelancers in your niche. If another freelancer has too much work or doesn't have the exact skills needed for a project, its common for them to refer the client to someone else who has positioned themselves as an expert in the field. So I think that tips and tutorials that target other designers, writers, and programmers can be very useful in that respect. I am a strong believer in the blog + portfolio approach, if you are interested, you may want to check out the post I wrote on portfolios for programmers.

I think it could be a good way to promote yourself and get some contacts. Agree with Poole, little of personal posts can help potential clients know you better

Clients not only look for your skills but also your personality, thinking and how you handle problems.

I think this is very valuable information BUT I think a little personal posts around your portfolio related blog isn’t such a bad idea. This will show the clients who you REALLY are.In my opinion it may gain trust and show some character.
