A lot of us spend hours upon hours creating and tweaking our online portfolios. Some of us update regularly, some of us don’t. Some of us ponder over the slightest details, whilst others don’t care – but crafting a brilliant portfolio is definately an art which takes time, dedication, and skill.
In this article, we present 9 Brilliantly Designed Portfolio Websites – so you yourself can see what makes a portfolio great.
All choices have been hand-picked from hundreds and hundreds of portfolios which we have encountered over the years, so it should be a very nice selection indeed. We’ve probably missed out a few we should have included – please don’t hesitate to send us recommendations via the comments at the bottom.
Please note that these are not listed in any particular order.
Flash-Based Portfolios
2advanced

2advanced has led the way with new and exciting ways of presenting their work. They really are true to their slogun of ‘Progressive Design Technology’ and over the years have gone through many a wonderful design change. The current version of their portfolio concentrates on the beautiful, lush backgrounds of the website.
4design

A personal favourite of mine, 4design have always astonished me with the quality of their work. They also re-designed a freelancer forum I visit regularly, and did a brilliant job of that too.
Static Portfolios
Web Design Beach
I first came across this website when I used to run a CSS gallery of my own; and I fell in love with it the minute I saw it. A very nice header indeed.
New Concept
Another one that was submitted to my old CSS gallery quite a few months ago, although some may not like it, I definately enjoy the clean lines and cool style of this portfolio.
Modstudio
Green, oh lush green. Modstudio have a wonderful nag for choosing good color, and I just love the apple!
Digimurai
Another cool portfolio, digimurai is definately worthy of praise – just look at that cool mascot.
Noe Design Studio
I fell in love with the twirly, abstract effects on this one – fair enough the rest is bland and minimalistic, but I just had to show you guys those twirls.
Adit Shukla
I decided to put this one up because it was a typical example of a good, bold portfolio. The background does wonders for this one.
nDesign Studio
The most incredible background I’ve seen in my life, full of color and life. Wonderful.
Suggestions/Comments?
Which are your favorite designs out of the lot? Which ones do you think have the best usability and accessibility? Which ones would you hire (if not all)? Have your say below.

I’m not sure I agree with your picks. Sure, these are all decent – but are mostly dated and/or not deserving of being mentioned over some others. I know there are thousands of sites that you could have mentioned … but I don’t think any of these (yes, including 2A) should be on any top 10 list.
If you really want to research and look into ‘world-class’ portfolios, look at thefwa.com and check that out.
It’s not top portfolios, just a list of very good ones.
Looking into the link you gave me mate.
In my opinion Examples are very good.
It’s so easy to make a stunning website in flash, but it takes so much more talent to design a page that leaves you breathless with just static pics
Thanks for the list, some of the portfolios I see for the first time.
VERY NICE BLOG
ITS VERY USEFUL
THANK YOU……….
There certainly nice portfolios, but not the best. It’s all opinion.
muito bacana o post parabéns
VERY NICE !
Well, I saw a lot of design portfolios.. but sometimes the kind that appears in this page is a bit “too much” in terms of design, I do not thing the portfolio itself should “override” the works it features.
A nice example without all the “bells and rings” is this one :
http://www.krembo99.com.
Simple, clean, and shows only the works (maybe too many of them , but still as a portfolio concept it is nice)
Nice!! =)
